Valentines Burlap Heart Wreath

This is a very easy craft that I enjoyed making for Valentines Day. Most steps are pretty straight forward, but I did include some tips I learned along the way.

Supplies

  • Yarn
  • Burlap
  • Diagonal Cutters ( or cutting pliers)
  • Glue (I used Fabric Glue)
  • Wire Frame
  • Scissors

Burlap Heart Steps

Step 1- Trim (Recommended)

If your wire frame is like mine then you are going to want to trim off and excess nubs that can get in your way while wrapping.

Use diagonal cutters to trim these off.

Before you start wrapping you may want to temporarily cover any sharp edges with tape so you do not scratch yourself while wrapping.

Once covered with yarn, any sharp edges created from trimming these nubs will not matter any more.

Step 2- Wrap Your Heart With Yarn

Start by tying a knot to your frame.

The begin wrapping. I keep my yarn on the ball, and wrap the ball around.

Periodically pushing your twine back, compacting it.

Once you get to the top of the heart you are going to want to wrap around like the image below. This will prevent having a massive ball of twine.

Finish Wrapping, I went back of this area so the yarn was going in the same direction.

Step 3- Cut Burlap

Lay your heart on your burlap, you can trace around it and use scissors to cut. I just used a fabric cutting wheel to make a rough cut around.

You want your cut to be wide so you have enough room to grab and tug on the burlap.

Step 4- Glue Burlap

First apply your burlap with glue at the top. I used fabric glue, but you could also use a glue gun.

Glue closer to the center, rather then on the outside edges.

Let it dry enough that you can tug on the bottom of your heart shape.

Pull the burlap until it is tight, and then glue the bottom down.

You should now be able to glue down the sides. Do this in segments, and remember to pull the burlap tight as you go around.

Step 5- Trim and Hang

Trim the excess burlap off.

You are done! I hung mine up by tying a twine loop to the back on a piece of yarn.
